Media Release: Major Milestone for the CONTACT Directory of Community Service
2015 marks a major milestone in the history of one of Canberra’s staple community publications, the CONTACT Directory of Community Services.
The CONTACT Directory –also known as the CONTACT Book –was first published thirty years ago in 1985 by the Department of Territories and contained around 1300 listings. CONTACT Canberra, trading at the time as the Citizens Advice Bureau,
took over the Directory in 1989.
Today, the thirtieth edition of the CONTACT Book has the details of nearly 2300 organisations, with listings compiled from CONTACT Canberra’s comprehensive online database. Services listed range from major international charities to small local volunteer and interest groups.
This year for the first time the CONTACT Book contains information on National Disability Insurance Scheme service providers.
“CONTACT Canberra continues to lead on providing accurate and accessible information to the Canberra community” said Maureen Cane,Chief Executive Officer of Volunteering and Contact ACT. “Building on the CONTACT Directory foundations, we are developing CONTACT Online, a responsive digital portal, and embracing innovative ways for people to find the information and support they need.”
The 2015 CONTACT Directory of Community Services can be ordered online through the CONTACT Canberra website www.contactcanberra.org.au, by calling 02 6248 7988 or from our Shopfront at the Griffin Centre, Genge Street, Civic.
